Clickdoc privacy policy

Clickdoc is a Chrome extension that records your clicks and typed input during a recording you start, and turns them into a step-by-step guide with screenshots. This policy explains what it does with that data. The short version: everything stays on your computer.

What Clickdoc stores

While a recording is active, Clickdoc stores, in your browser's local extension storage: a screenshot of the visible tab at each step, a text description of the action (for example, the label of the button you clicked or the text you typed into a field), the page title and URL, and the position of the element on screen. When you stop, these become a guide stored in the same local storage until you delete it.

What Clickdoc does not do

• It does not send screenshots, step text, URLs, or anything else to any server. There is no server.
• It does not create accounts or require sign-in.
• It does not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics.
• It does not read or record pages when no recording is active.
• It does not record the contents of password fields or fields whose names indicate secrets or card numbers; those are shown as masked text.
• It does not use AI or send data to any AI service.

Exports

When you download a guide as HTML, copy it as Markdown, or print it, the file is created on your computer and contains the screenshots embedded. Where you send that file is up to you.

License keys

Licenses are sold through a payment provider (Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy). When you activate a key bought there, the extension sends that key, and nothing else, to the provider once to confirm it is genuine, and stores the result locally along with the email address the purchase was made with, so it can show who it is licensed to. The provider's own privacy policy covers the purchase itself. Keys issued directly by Clickdoc are signed strings verified entirely inside the extension with no network request.

Permissions

Clickdoc asks for access to all sites so that it can take screenshots of and record steps on whatever site you are documenting. It uses this access only during a recording you started. It asks for storage without a quota limit because guides with embedded screenshots can exceed the default limit.

Deleting your data

Delete a guide from its page, or remove the extension; removing the extension deletes all of its local storage.
