Most tools that turn your clicks into a guide are sold per seat, per month. Two are sold for a single payment: Clickdoc at $49 and Folge at $89. This page shows both, and what the subscription tools cost beside them.
Why this category is priced monthly
Screenshot guides are heavy files, and most of these tools keep yours. The screenshots are uploaded, stored, and served back as a hosted link, and the features people pay for sit on top of that link: sharing with people outside the company, seeing who opened the guide, AI that writes the step text, video hosting. Storage, bandwidth and an AI bill all recur, so the price recurs with them. The monthly seat fee is also what pays for a generous free tier — Dubble gives away unlimited guides, and the paid plans are what fund it.
A tool that never uploads anything has none of those costs. Clickdoc keeps every screenshot in your own browser storage and Folge keeps them on your own disk, so neither one runs a server on your behalf, and both can be sold for one payment that does not come back. That is the whole trade: you give up the hosted link and the analytics that come with it, and you stop paying rent on your own documentation.

What Clickdoc does not do
- No desktop-app capture. It records tabs in Chrome. If the software you document is not in a browser, Clickdoc cannot see it.
- No AI-written step text. Steps are written from what you actually clicked and typed. You edit the wording yourself.
- No cloud sharing and no hosted links. There is no server, so there is no URL to send. You hand over an HTML file, Markdown, or a PDF.
- No team analytics. Nothing reports who opened a guide or how far they read.
- No video. Screenshots and text only.
Which one to buy
Stay with Folge if the software you document is a desktop application, you need its export templates, or you want a Windows or Mac program rather than a browser extension. It is the other one-time purchase in this list, and $89 for a perpetual Personal licence is a fair price for a desktop capture tool.
Stay on a subscription if you need a hosted link that anyone can open, AI that drafts the step text for you, a report on who read the guide, or video. Those are running services, and a tool that charges once cannot fund them.
